MTB - Valemount Bike Park

5 Mile Road Overview

  • Purpose: Primary access road for the Valemount Bike Park, serving as a shuttle route to gravity-assisted downhill trails and the Selwyn Traverse Trail north trailhead.
  • Stats:
    • Length: 7.5 km (4.6 miles) of doubletrack forest service road.
    • Elevation: Ranges from 795 m (2,609’) to 1,515 m (4,969’).
    • Grade: 10% avg, 46% max.
  • Logistics:
    Active logging area—high-clearance 4×4 recommended but not mandatory.
    Parking available at two main staging areas with picnic sites (no overnight camping).

    Cross-Country & All-Mountain Trails

    • Inversion: Novice-friendly cross-country trail intersecting Provincial Trail.
    • Southern Traverse: Rolling 2.5 km flow trail with optional tech sections.
    • Tech Zone: Compact loops with rocky terrain and elevation changes for skill-building.

     

    Essential Tips

    • Shuttles: Commercial shuttles (e.g., Peak Shuttles) available weekends; private bookings possible.
    • Gear: Helmets mandatory; body armor advised for downhill. Rentals at Bikes & Bites or District Bicycle Co.
    • Season: Mid-May to mid-October; check Valemount Bike Park Facebook for conditions.
